Final Thoughts

It was a great tournament. I have never played a Lycaon before in RSBM so I was shocked how effective leap and vicious were together. Next time I would cost leap at +9 so either the signatures would be fewer for Copeira or Dee Jay's attributes would have to be lower.
Thoughts of overall play:
I really enjoyed playing this tournament. I was surprised how easily the Punch Out Your Lights from Red Sand Brown Sky supplement rules with the RSBM Signatures created a convincing MMA enviroment.
I used Shield Bash to simulate legs sweeps and throws. Bite and Tail attacks were used to simulate choke holds and bear hugs. This worked with decent results.
I considered using the Net Attack to represent grappling and ground fighting but it really didn't work right.
I was thrilled with how all the elements of these kinds of tournaments shown in movies were here.
  • The single punch knockout.
  • The tough guy who takes a beating but pulls it out at the end.
  • Long drawn out fights between defensive style fighters
  • Offensive styles fighters finishing fights fast
The defensive abilities work well with numerous turns have multiple retakes and ending in a standstill
Even the longest fight was well less that 2 hours. Most of the fights were in the 20 to 40 minutes range.
I can really envision rule set being built on RSBM mechanics using the Punch Out Your Lights rules and creating a few signatures and developing special attacks that properly represent MMA fighting.
I had a wonderful time. I hope you enjoyed reading my reports.

Tournament Finals - Ryu vs Dee Jay

The Promoter was thrilled. She got a betting bookmaker's dream finals. Hopefully it would go the distance as betting would be allowed while the fight was happening.

She called the fighters to the area. She thanked for their strength and courage. She assured them their purse was secure. She offered bonuses for winner and winning with style.

The last thing she wanted was for them to sleep walk through this fight because they were happy with the loser's share.

With a flourish to the crowd she signaled for the fight to begin.

The Promoter watched intently. It was fascinating to watch Ryu's hard as nails fighting withstand the vicious kicks and strikes of Dee Jay. She expected Ryu to fall at any moment.

She is amazed that Ryu is chosing to fight from the ground. What strategy does he have up his sleeve? Finally he stands up to face Dee Jay again.

The Promoter is amazed that Ryu is still standing after the punishment he has taken and that he was able to block those last to blows.

How much longer could he last? She turned to see the betting frenzy that was occurring. The Promoter decided that both had definitely earned a bonus or two.

The fight has lasted longer than any other fight except for Chun Li and Electra's. It was amazing to watch. The Promoter was proud. She definitely would get known for putting on a tournament.

All thoughts of fame and wealth exited her mind as she watched Dee Jay and Ryu maneuver once again.

The Promoter gladly yells "You're winner is DEE JAY!"

She laughs as he starts dancing. Her only thought as he pulls out a pair of maracas to dance with was.

"Where does he keep those things anyway",

Dee Jav vs Karate Kid

The Promoter waved to get everyone attention. It was now final match of the second round. The winner would face Ryu in the Finals.

It would be the Long Shot - Dee Jay (and newest favorite) against past winner, heavy betting favorite, Karate Kid.

She signalled for the fight to begin.

Everyone is shocked at the advantage that Copeira's leaping moves provide. Anyone favorite with the different MMA styles knew that a leaping attack was effective but leaping, not to attack, but gain position was not something many would believe was such an advantage. Then add the viciousness of the Copeira strikes and kicks when position was gained made a very effective fighting form.

Next the Final

RYU vs DEE JAY!

Ryu vs Chun LI

The Promoter signalled for the fighter to begin.

The Promoter signalled the victor. She could hear arguing that this should count as being as fast as Dee Jay but the rules were strict. Chun Li had made an attack which had taken time so Dee Jay still had the fast KO and she still had everyone's money.

This was turning out to be a GREAT tournament.

Ken vs Karate Kid

The Promoter called for a end of all betting. It was time for the fighters to enter the area. She liked the Karate Kid. He had style but Ken. Now he was absolutely gorgerous. This was a fun style fight. Karate against Kickboxing.

Kickboxing was all out offense and Ken was very aggressive. Karate Kid was patient working defense then hitting with a precision strike. Karate Kid was the favorite to win the fastest KO but the best he could hope for now was to tie Dee Jay.

The Promoter signaled for the fight to start.

The Promoter smiled. Even though the fight had been all defense with only 1 blow landing it was still an exciting fight. The crowd was going nuts waiting to see who would get through the other's defenses first.

With a huge smile and a wave to the crowd the Karate Kid bowed to The Promoter. She signal the victory was true so all bets could be paid off.

Dee Jay vs Shang Chi

The Promoter called the next two fighters to the fight area. The crowd paid attention it was a contrast of styles fight: Copeira vs Kung Fu. There would be heavy betting as opponents varied of the effectiveness of the styles.

The Promoter signals for the fight to begin.

There was dead silence around. Dee Jay had set the bar of quickest KO. The better on tournament went heavy on the victor.

The Promoter smiled as she knew a long shot was quickly being bet up to a favorite status.

It was a perfect strike. Dee Jay had 5d6 for damage. The roll was 5 successes!!

Chun Li vs Electra

The Promoter was nervous. She had thought have the 2 women fight each other in the second match of the tournament would have been a great way to get the crowd invovled. Unfortuately she was hearing a few start to grumble. Wondering if this was a street fight or a dance off.

The fight was lasting longer and fewer blocks were being landed than we expected.

The Promoter smiled. The crowd was starting to get into. Her bookings were coming up with creative ways to bet as well. "Who would lose a nail first" and "Will a wardrobe malfunction occur" were getting action.

The Promoter was beaming with pride as the fighters took the fight to the roof top. The audience was fired up now. The bets were hot and heavy on traditional fighting not the novelty bets. She was confident everyone would stay around to see the winners next match.

She revel is the cheers of the spectators. While they were meant directly for her she felt like they were her own for they were her customers and they were cheering for her fighters.

The Promoter found herself joining in the frenzy of the fighters and the crowd. Not only were they fighting on the rooftops but when the first one was knocked off she was shocked the fight wasn't over. The crowd was silent when she stood up then roared when she leapt back onto the roof to continue the fight.

The Promoter was shocked to discover herself roaring along with them.

The Promoter raised the victor's arm. "Winner is CHUN LI!"
